What do God, sports, and clothes all have in common? Nothing, you might say to yourself. But that all changed with the launching of God Inspired Outfits, or GIO Brand. During the summer, Vanguard student Greg Scott had a vision placed in his heart by God.

While reading the Bible, Scott felt a desire to glorify God on a bigger scale.

“God Inspired Outfits was a way for me to bring people closer to the concept of Christ and sports, which was the prevalent concept in my own life,” Scott said.

After being involved in sports for his whole life, Scott, a senior on the Men’s basketball team, realized his passion and love for the game.

Ideas and concepts for GIO brand are simple and founded securely in the words of Scripture.

“While trekking through the book of Exodus, I felt inspired by the method in which God used Moses to lead the nation out of condemnation. After completing the book of Exodus, I had an urge to find an avenue in which I could glorify God on a bigger scale” Scott said.

Taking on such a big project takes creavitity and determination.

“Ideas for new products can come from anywhere. It could be a powerful scripture, uplifting movie, or everyday interaction with different people,” Scott said. “That is the beauty of God; there are no limitations.”

Currently, God Inspired Outfits is in its infancy stages with lots of growing and expansion in its future. With any new company, there is a learning curve with meeting and attracting customers. For the most part, GIO caters to athletic teams, producing jerseys, sweats, warm-ups, and t-shirts. On the side, men’s and women’s clothes are retailed to help get the brand name out in the marketplace, and to explore the possibilities of his creativity.

“GIO enlists designers who have a knack for style and trends,” Scott said.

Some of the first people to purchase GIO Brand products are current Vanguard students.

“I bought a t-shirt because they are simple, yet stylish and display a good message to consumers,” said junior Ryan Kenney.

Scott currently has clients in two high school teams in Cypress, California. He is also in the process of putting merchandise into some stores in the Santa Ana Mall.

Right now, Scott is still designing and creating new merchandise. He is meeting new clients and pitching his brand and vision to sports teams and individuals around Orange County, with dreams of expanding further. In the near future, Scott will launch GIOBrand.com, a website detailing all the products the brand creates.

Although GIO is a new brand, Scott already has big dreams. In the future, he hopes to add products including hats and specialty shoes. The first expansion project will be basketball and casual tennis shoes. But Scott keeps in mind that the vision of GIO will be led by the Lord. The brand is, after all, God-inspired.

Ladies, it is time to sit down with your sports fanatics and relate to their testosterone filled enjoyment. Not every girl needs to be an expert on sports, but it is helpful to have common knowledge about his favorites. (Especially if you want him to have a clue about your favorite places to shop!)
Junior Keegan Freeman, a VU baseball player and his fashionista girlfriend junior Jessica Piña agree that it is important for any girl to know a little about sports, but it is most important that she knows enough to enjoy the game.
“I think she understands it. She likes it a lot. She went to five games [in one week],” Freeman said.
“He might need to explain some things, but [I get it] for the most part,” Piña responded.
Asking questions is key for many non-athletic girls to understand more about sports.
To demonstrate that even though she may not get everything, she sometimes still doesn’t want to ask, Freeman asked Piña, “Do you know what a triple-double is, like a double-double?”
“Like at In-and-Out?” asked Piña.
The point is to ask away, ladies! Get involved with the game and understand what is going on. To help boost your sports savvy, here are a few key terms that will be helpful when it comes to quality time with your man.

Interception: The legal catch of a forward pass through an opposing player.
Girl Talk: When another girl tries to swoop in and get the attention of your man when you are gone for the weekend.
BASEBALL
Crowding the plate: When a batter gets too close to home plate, or “covers” part of the strike zone, which could end up in the batter getting hit.
Girl Talk: When you see another girl flirting with your hunk in the Caf, and it’s about to go down “Africa Style” like in the movie Mean Girls.
Baseball Diamond: The shape of the four bases in the infield.
Girl Talk: A similar shape every “ring-by-spring” couple has admired lately.
Sack Fly: A fly ball that advances a runner.
