Expensive Dinner for two$50.00, Edwards Movie Theater Tickets and Popcorn$25.00, A date that the girl will love and you will still see green in your wallet after the kiss goodnightpriceless!

Yes, men, it is possible to take out that special girl without emptying your bank accounts. All too often I hear guys talking about how they have been raised with the mentality to always pay for the girl, but that with school and their minimum wage job they don’t have enough cash to treat their crush to a special night. So instead of coming up with a plan B, they don’t ask the girl out at all. This is not the answer. In fact, a girl will like you so much more if you are creative with your date ideas and do something out of the ordinary. Dinner and a movie is classic but come on, we live in Orange County. There is so much to do. Just put on those thinking caps and get a pen and jot these down!

Dear Cole,
Is it OK to keep looking or should I wait around for the right person?  Do you believe in actively pursuing or just sampling?  And what is your take on online dating?

Dear Just Wondering,
It depends on your dating situation. It’s not a bad thing if you have a fairly balanced love life and are just keeping an eye out for compatibility in the opposite sex. But if you have been dating others consecutively then you might want to consider taking a dating break. Use this time to grow as an individual, and not only discover what you want, but also what you seek in an ideal partner. You don’t want to be so distracted or preoccupied with the concept of dating that you end up missing that perfect person right in front of you.
As for the actively pursuing or sampling bit, “casual” can be fun for the time, but think of it as a transitory stage in your life. Use it as a learning experience. Once you do find that right person, the act of serious pursuit will take its place and the appeal that casual dating once had will dwindle before your eyes.
Finally, in regards to online dating, I think it’s a waste of money and a bit tiresome to weed through undesirables. However, I can’t ignore the cases of two people meeting on a dating site and it eventually turning into a wonderful marriage.  I wouldn’t consider online dating as a first choice, but you don’t have to rule it out completely.

Signed,
Cole
